Whilst waiting for NHS approval for the study, I took a trip to Wakefield to visit the Hepworth art gallery. I had not visited before, but I had heard of an exhibition that looked interesting and had some overlap with our research.

This is what the official website says:
Caroline Walker (b.1982, Dunfermline) is known for her accomplished paintings which offer a lens into the everyday lives of women.
Through her large canvases, intimate panels and ink sketches, she portrays diverse female subjects in settings that blur the boundaries between public and private. Her works reveal the complex social, cultural and economic experiences of women living in contemporary society.
The exhibition will bring together works made over the past five years with new paintings exploring themes of motherhood and early-years care.
It was a really interesting visit. Caroline is basically doing the same thing we hope to do with our project. That is, highlighting the unseen work that parents have to do to look after children, or other family members, or indeed other people in general.

It has made me think that we should do our own ‘exhibition’ at the end of this PhD project (which will be in 2027). I have collected quite a few things already, and will have a think of how to showcase them. Stay tuned (and subscribed) to hear about that.
We will have a parent advisory group meeting at the end of the study, and we can book a room at City Museum for a drop-in type meeting to showcase all the work and memories from this fellowship.

Sadly, the Caroline Walker exhibition finishes this weekend. But I thoroughly recommend visiting if you have time.
